Jared Goff Still Revisiting Rams Exit in Netflix Series — But Is It Time to Move On?

It’s been five years since the Los Angeles Rams traded Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford. And while both sides have seen success—Stafford brought L.A. a Super Bowl, and Goff has helped turn the Lions into contenders—Goff’s feelings about the trade are still making headlines.

The upcoming season of Netflix’s Quarterback will spotlight Goff, and unsurprisingly, part of his story focuses on how he was “cast away” by the Rams. In the trailer, Goff says, “I think a lot of people in my former organization may have thought [my career] was over.” While that narrative might resonate with fans, some argue it’s time to let it go.

The Rams’ decision to move on from Goff wasn’t personal—it was football. Sean McVay has even acknowledged he could have handled the situation better, admitting in 2022 he should’ve been more direct with Goff. Still, the move to Stafford paid off immediately.

Goff, for his part, has thrived in Detroit. But leaning too hard on the “mistreated” angle runs the risk of painting the Rams as villains in a situation that was really just business. Both teams got what they needed: L.A. got their championship, and Detroit got their franchise QB and a shot at long-term success.

As Quarterback brings Goff’s story back into the spotlight, it’s worth recognizing the full picture. This wasn’t a tragedy—it was a rare NFL trade that worked out for everyone.
