Jarin Stevenson, a 6’11” forward who’s been a solid player for Alabama basketball, is officially heading back home to play for North Carolina.
During his freshman year, Stevenson helped Alabama make it to their first-ever Final Four. In his second year, they got to the Elite Eight. He entered the NCAA transfer portal on April 3, and by April 13, he made it official—he’s going back to North Carolina, where he’s originally from.
On Friday, he posted a heartfelt thank-you on Instagram to his Bama teammates, coaches, and fans. “It’s been a ride,” he said. “Thank you for all the love and support.”
Stevenson came into Alabama as a four-star recruit, ranked 11th among power forwards in his class. In his first season, he played in all 37 games, starting five and averaging 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds. His second season saw a bit more action—he started 22 games and bumped his stats slightly.
Before college, he played high school ball at Seaforth High in North Carolina. Now, he’s back in Tar Heel territory, where his mom played, and where he grew up rooting for UNC. With a couple of deep NCAA Tournament runs under his belt, he’s hoping to bring that experience to a UNC squad aiming to make some noise.
