With the NFL coaching carousel about to pick up steam, Jerry Jones’ vision for the Dallas Cowboys’ next head coach is beginning to take shape.
The Cowboys find themselves at a crossroads, and it’s time for them to adopt an assertive approach in finding their next leader. For Dallas, that means Jerry Jones must have a well-structured plan ready to execute.
Connor Orr of Sports Illustrated recently shared his perspective on the team’s situation, offering a potential Plan A and Plan B for Jones and the Cowboys. While big names like Deion Sanders and Ben Johnson have been rumored, Dallas appears to be focusing on more experienced and dependable candidates.
According to Orr, offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who had a Zoom interview with the Cowboys last week, is likely Jones’ first choice. As for Plan B? Former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who reportedly had an in-person interview with the team over the weekend.
“Moore provides Jones with familiarity—it bolsters his pipeline, and Moore would not be surprised in any way by the rigors of the job. It also likely gives Jones the chance to add some familiar faces to the staff,” Orr explained in his column for MMQB.
On the other hand, Saleh offers a different appeal. “All that said, I think Saleh has displayed an ability to bring an adult-in-the-room vibe to clearly chaotic situations. The defensive personnel would love him in Dallas,” Orr noted.
Saleh might not be a flashy hire, but his stabilizing presence could be exactly what the franchise needs. Considering the Cowboys’ defense has been the heart and soul of the team, particularly during their late-season surge, Saleh could be a great fit.
Pairing Saleh with a creative offensive coordinator to rejuvenate Dallas’ attack could make for a winning formula in Big D.
