Jets Gamble Big on Inconsistent CB to Replace DJ Reed

Jets Take a Risky Gamble on Brandon Stephens to Replace DJ Reed

With DJ Reed heading to the Detroit Lions, the New York Jets quickly moved to sign former Baltimore Ravens cornerback Brandon Stephens. The deal is for three years, $36 million, with $23 million guaranteed, slightly less than the three-year, $48 million contract Reed received from Detroit.

Stephens has had an inconsistent career, transitioning from safety to cornerback and showing flashes of solid play. However, he struggled last season, allowing a 107.4 passer rating in coverage. New Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is betting on his defensive back development skills to turn Stephens around, but this signing comes with plenty of risk.
