Dan Campbell’s coaching influence is stretching far beyond Detroit — and right into the heart of the New York Jets.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is stepping into his new role with lessons learned from some of the NFL’s best. Throughout his career, Glenn has been shaped by great football minds like Bill Parcells and Sean Payton — both Super Bowl-winning coaches known for building strong team cultures and demanding discipline. Glenn believes those foundational values will help steer the Jets in the right direction.
But when it comes to preparing for his first year as a head coach, it’s his most recent mentor, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell, who may have made the biggest impact.
During a press conference on the final day of Jets minicamp, Glenn openly credited Campbell for giving him opportunities to grow into a head coach during their time together in Detroit, where Glenn served as defensive coordinator for four seasons.
“I give a lot of credit to Coach Campbell in Detroit because he allowed me to actually act in the position of being head coach,” Glenn shared. “To be able to do the calendar for the offseason, plan training camp out, be able to make decisions that he was supposed to make. He allowed me to make those decisions to get me ready to be in this position.”
Glenn didn’t take those chances lightly. The former NFL cornerback and scout has consistently expressed gratitude for the coaches who helped him rise through the ranks.
Now that he’s at the helm of his own team, Glenn is putting those experiences into action. His approach to planning practices and organizing the team reflects everything he’s absorbed along the way — especially from his time under Campbell’s leadership.
The Jets’ fanbase will soon get a closer look at Glenn’s coaching style when training camp kicks off on July 22. As he steps into the spotlight, it’s clear he’s carrying a little bit of Detroit with him into New York.
