Jets Snag Lions’ Tanner Engstrand as New Offensive Coordinator

Jets Hire Lions Passing Game Coordinator Tanner Engstrand as Offensive Coordinator

The New York Jets have made a key hire to boost their offense, tapping Tanner Engstrand as their new offensive coordinator. Engstrand, previously the passing game coordinator for the Detroit Lions, brings with him a wealth of experience from Detroit’s top-ranked offense, which finished as the No. 1 scoring unit in 2024 under offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

Engstrand, who has been with the Lions for five seasons, will now face his biggest challenge yet as he looks to elevate the Jets’ offense, which ranked 24th in points scored last season. His move to New York coincides with the Jets’ transition under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn, who is building his staff with the addition of defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

Before his time with Detroit, Engstrand worked with Michigan’s coaching staff and even served as the offensive coordinator for the XFL’s DC Defenders in 2020. With talented players like Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, and Alijah Vera-Tucker, Engstrand has the pieces in place to help rejuvenate the Jets’ attack and possibly lead them to their first top-10 offense in over a decade.

With high expectations following Ben Johnson’s success in Detroit, Engstrand’s ability to replicate that success in New York will be closely watched.
