The 49ers have been pretty quiet in free agency this offseason, but that doesn’t mean they’re ignoring key roster needs—especially along the offensive line.
With the 2025 NFL Draft coming up, San Francisco has some decisions to make, particularly after losing starting left guard Aaron Banks to the Packers. They did bring back veteran Ben Bartch to compete for the spot, but beyond that, the team seems comfortable rolling with its current group: Trent Williams, Jake Brendel, Dominick Puni, and Colton McKivitz.
General manager John Lynch acknowledged that while they’ll “certainly” look to add in the draft, they feel good about the pieces already in place. That lines up with the 49ers’ draft history—under Lynch and Kyle Shanahan, the team has only taken two offensive linemen in the first two rounds over the past eight years, preferring to find late-round gems.
Still, holding the No. 11 pick, the 49ers could have a shot at top prospects like Missouri’s Armand Membou, LSU’s Will Campbell, or Texas’s Kelvin Banks. But if history tells us anything, San Francisco might opt to address other needs early and target linemen later in the draft.
One thing that should help solidify the O-line? A healthy Trent Williams. The 49ers struggled last season when he was out, going 1-6 in his absence. If he stays on the field, the unit as a whole should look a lot stronger in 2025.
