Juan Soto Comments by Ex-Yankee Light a Fire Under Mets

The Yankees might have lost Juan Soto to the Mets’ $765 million offer, but one former Bronx Bomber thinks they’re still better off. Johnny Damon, a two-time World Series champ, believes the Yankees’ roster moves since Soto’s departure might actually give them an edge.

Damon told Sportscasting that while Soto is a “phenomenal player,” the Yankees have added more depth with guys like Max Fried, Paul Goldschmidt, Cody Bellinger, and Devin Williams. He thinks the team has improved overall, with the kind of balance needed for the long grind of a 162-game season.

Last year, the Judge-Soto duo took the Yankees to their first World Series since 2009, but they fell short against the Dodgers. Now, with these new acquisitions and ace Gerrit Cole sticking around, Damon sees a real shot at another championship.

On the flip side, the Mets are fired up. After falling two wins short of the World Series last year, they snagged Soto—stealing a superstar from their New York rivals. With big expectations and Soto leading the charge, the Mets are aiming to make this rivalry even spicier with a World Series win.

Both teams have a lot to prove this season, and the stakes couldn’t be higher in New York baseball.
