A federal judge just called out the Trump administration for not following his orders on foreign aid funding. Judge Amir Ali wasn’t happy that the administration still had much of the aid frozen, despite his previous ruling to lift the hold.
In a seven-page order, Ali made it clear he wasn’t buying the administration’s excuses for the delay. Aid groups had complained that the funding was still being blocked, and a Trump official admitted most payments were still on hold.
Ali wasn’t having it. He reminded the administration that his ruling was “clear” and warned them to stop trying to find loopholes. “To the extent Defendants have continued the blanket suspension, they are ordered to immediately cease it,” he wrote.
However, Ali stopped short of holding officials in contempt, even though aid groups accused Peter Marocco and Secretary of State Marco Rubio of openly defying the court’s decision. For now, the administration has been warned—but if they don’t comply, things could get more serious.
