Just in Time: Good News Lifts Carter Ahead of Giants Showdown

With just a few weeks left until the 2025 NFL Draft, the New York Giants are still trying to figure out who they’ll go with. The main names in the mix? Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, his teammate Travis Hunter, and Penn State’s Abdul Carter. But depending on what the Browns do with the No. 2 pick, some of that decision might be made for them.

Each of these guys has a solid case to go third overall. But out of the three, Carter might be the hardest fit for the Giants. Hunter could jump in right away and play opposite Paulson Adebo, and he’s arguably better than any Giants receiver except Malik Nabers. Sanders might not hit the field in 2025, but let’s be real—New York needs a QB badly.

As for Carter, the Giants already have Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux holding it down on the edges, so adding another pass rusher could feel like a luxury pick. On top of that, Carter’s draft profile has some question marks. He played through a shoulder injury and skipped testing because of a foot issue. Nothing major, but when it’s neck-and-neck between two prospects, stuff like that can tip the scale.

But Carter just got some much-needed good news right before his visit to New York. According to Adam Schefter, Carter’s medical check-up in Indy showed his foot injury is healing well, and he won’t need surgery. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, says the issue “should be a non-factor” for teams now.

That’s a big win for Carter—and for any of the top four teams thinking about drafting him. Feeling good about where he stands, Carter’s only meeting with a few teams: the Titans, Patriots, Browns, and, of course, the Giants. His visit with New York started Thursday and will continue into Friday, giving the Giants a longer look at a guy who could be their next big pass rusher.

Even though he might not see a ton of action right away because of how stacked the Giants are on the edge, taking a shot on a high-upside guy like Carter still makes a lot of sense. And now that his medicals are looking better, Giants fans can feel even better about the idea.
