Key Takeaways from Georgia’s First Week of Spring Ball

Georgia Spring Practice: Key Takeaways from Week One

Spring football is in full swing for the Georgia Bulldogs, giving us an early glimpse at the 2025 squad. With roster changes, new faces, and position battles, here’s what we learned from the first week of practice.

Revamping the Defense
With departures to the NFL and transfer portal, Georgia has fresh talent at EDGE and defensive end. During practice, Darren Ikinnagbon, Gabe Harris, Quintavius Johnson, Kris Jones, and Chase Linton worked with Coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe. The standout? Kris Jones, a redshirt freshman originally recruited as a linebacker, may be transitioning to a new role.

Bigger Targets at Receiver
The Bulldogs upgraded their wide receiver corps with size. Texas A&M transfer Noah Thomas and returning veteran Colbie Young bring much-needed length, while freshman CJ Wiley adds another big-bodied target. This marks a shift from last season, when Georgia lacked this type of physical presence in the passing game.

Freshman Phenoms
Among the newcomers, tight end Elyiss Williams is impossible to miss—his sheer size stands out even in a stacked position group. Ikinnagbon also looks physically ready to contribute in the SEC right away.

Quarterback Depth Chart Taking Shape
Gunner Stockton leads the way at QB, with redshirt freshman Ryan Puglisi still developing. Freshman Ryan Montgomery, recovering from a knee injury, participated in limited drills with a brace.

Injury Updates
WR Tyler Williams (ankle surgery)
DB Daylen Everette (sports hernia, limited but improving)
Multiple players recovering from labrum surgery, ACL/PCL repairs
Looking Ahead
The Bulldogs aim to extend their dominance in 2025, with early signs pointing to a deeper, stronger roster. With plenty of time before kickoff, position battles and player development will be key storylines to watch.
