LaPorta’s Week 11 Outlook Takes a Hit After Another Missed Practice

Detroit Lions fans were hoping Friday would bring a little optimism, but instead the news surrounding tight end Sam LaPorta has gone from concerning to downright discouraging. With the Philadelphia Eagles coming up in Week 11, the timing couldn’t be worse.

A Back Issue That Won’t Go Away

LaPorta was a surprise addition to the injury report earlier this week because of a back issue. Missing Wednesday and Thursday practices was already a red flag, but Friday’s update pushed things further in the wrong direction.

Dan Campbell didn’t sugarcoat it when speaking about LaPorta’s status:
“I’ll know a lot more today, that’s another one,” he said. “I don’t see him practicing, either.”

That’s not the type of coach-speak that leaves you feeling hopeful.

Playing Without Practice? Maybe… But Unlikely

Yes, LaPorta can play even if he doesn’t practice — he’s that kind of player. But the reality is simple: “his chances of suiting up are greatly reduced if he doesn’t practice.”

A full week of DNPs before a tough matchup? Not ideal.

Who Fills the Gap If He Sits?

If LaPorta can’t go, Brock Wright is next up — assuming Wright himself is healthy enough. He’s also on the injury report, though he managed a limited session on Thursday.

Behind him, the Lions have Ross Dwelley available, as well as Zach Horton and Anthony Firkser on the practice squad. Expect one of those two to be elevated on Sunday if LaPorta is officially out.

And for fantasy football players: Wright isn’t a strong replacement option. Detroit’s passing game has “too many mouths to feed,” something LaPorta himself “is often a victim of.”

Final Thoughts

LaPorta’s Week 11 status is trending in the wrong direction, and the Lions may be forced to adapt quickly. With Campbell openly expecting him to miss another practice, the chances of seeing No. 87 on the field this Sunday are shrinking fast.
