From Cut to Clutch: Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s Wild NFL Ride
So, the Buffalo Bills thought they were making a savvy move when they signed veteran speedster Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The plan? Add some juice to a receiver room that just lost Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. But… things didn’t exactly go as planned.
MVS barely made a blip in Buffalo — just two catches for 26 yards in six games. Yikes. The Bills pulled the plug fast, releasing him in October to make space for Amari Cooper. That move looked good on paper but didn’t pay off either — Cooper had a pretty “meh” run in Buffalo (just 20 catches, 297 yards, and 2 TDs).
But Valdes-Scantling? Oh, he bounced back hard.
He landed with the New Orleans Saints and instantly caught fire: 17 grabs, 385 yards, and 4 touchdowns in just eight games. Suddenly, it looked like the Bills may have let a good one get away.
Now, MVS is onto his next chapter with the Seattle Seahawks, and early signs point to him playing a major role. NFL insider Cameron Van Til thinks Valdes-Scantling will be right behind Cooper Kupp and Jaxon Smith-Njigba on the depth chart — not too shabby.
And he’s pumped. Really pumped.
“I’m very excited,” MVS said when he signed with Seattle. “I was only in New Orleans for eight games and still put up big numbers — with two head coaches and three quarterbacks. I’m grateful for this opportunity.”
One big reason he chose Seattle? New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak — a familiar face from his Saints stint.
“That was all Klint,” Valdes-Scantling said. “We clicked in New Orleans, and when he took the job in Seattle, it felt like the perfect fit. They lost some guys, and the door opened for me.”
With the Seahawks moving on from Geno Smith and giving Sam Darnold another shot after his mini-resurgence in Minnesota, the offense is in transition. But if MVS continues this late-career surge, he might just become one of the steals of the offseason.
