The Detroit Lions are reinforcing their defensive line with the addition of former Cardinals nose tackle Roy Lopez. The team has agreed to a one-year, $4.65 million contract with the veteran lineman, adding depth and experience to the interior of their defense.
Lopez has started 50 games over his four-year career, spending his first two seasons with the Texans before joining Arizona. He has compiled 137 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and three sacks in that span, proving to be a reliable presence against the run. Last season, he contributed a sack, three pass deflections, and four tackles for loss while generating 18 pressures in the pass rush.
With Alim McNeill recovering from a torn ACL and his status for the start of the season uncertain, Lopez provides much-needed insurance at the position. He joins a defensive front that already includes D.J. Reader and Brodric Martin, giving the Lions a deeper rotation heading into 2025.
