Lions and Marcus Davenport Agree to 1-Year, $4.75M Contract

The Detroit Lions are bringing back defensive end Marcus Davenport on a one-year deal worth up to $4.75 million. The former first-round pick battled injuries last season, appearing in just two games due to a torn triceps.

Davenport originally signed with Detroit on a $10.5 million deal last year, but injuries have limited him to just six games over the past two seasons. Despite his injury history, the Lions are giving him another shot to bolster their pass rush. He has 24 career sacks, including a career-high nine in 2021 with the New Orleans Saints.

The team also locked in linebacker Derrick Barnes earlier this week on a three-year contract worth up to $25.5 million. Barnes, a key piece of Detroit’s defense, suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 3 last season. He has 194 tackles in his 51-game career and was drafted by the Lions in 2021.
