Lions Bring Back Breakout Star: Levi Onwuzurike Inks One-Year Deal

The Detroit Lions have re-signed defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike to a one-year, $5.5 million contract. This deal is essentially a “prove-it” contract, giving Onwuzurike the opportunity to demonstrate his value and potentially earn a more lucrative deal in the future.

Onwuzurike had a breakout season in 2024, finishing with 28 tackles, 13 quarterback hits, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. He also achieved a PFF overall grade of 71.4, ranking 13th among 36 qualified defensive linemen in 4-3 snaps.

The Lions’ decision to re-sign Onwuzurike reflects their commitment to building a strong defensive line. With Aidan Hutchinson already on board, the Lions are looking to add more depth and talent to their pass rush rotation.

In terms of Onwuzurike’s performance, he’s shown promise as an interior pass rusher, with a 10.8% pressure rate during the 2024 regular season. This was higher than some top interior defensive linemen.
