Lions Bring Back Defensive Depth: Ezekiel Turner Re-Signs with Team

The Detroit Lions have re-signed linebacker Ezekiel Turner to a one-year deal. Turner initially joined the Lions’ practice squad on November 6 and was promoted to the active roster just three days later.

He went on to play 111 defensive snaps and 176 special teams snaps in nine games. During that time, Turner tied for third on the team with five special teams tackles and recorded 12 total tackles and half a sack.

Turner’s re-signing comes on the heels of the Lions’ decision to re-sign strongside linebacker Derrick Barnes to a three-year deal. The team has also informed core special teams player Jalen Reeves-Maybin that he will be released when the new league year begins.

As a special teamer, Turner has been incredibly reliable. He has earned praise from Lions special teams coordinator Dave Fipp for his abilities on special teams.

However, Turner’s defensive skills have been a concern, particularly in coverage. Despite this, the Lions have opted to bring him back, likely due to his value on special teams.

Turner will likely continue to play a key role on the Lions’ special teams unit. His re-signing provides stability and depth to the team’s linebacker corps.
