Lions Face Competition for CB Carlton Davis in Free Agency
With NFL free agency approaching, the Detroit Lions may have a fight on their hands to keep cornerback Carlton Davis. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to be among the teams interested in Davis if he hits the open market on March 10.
Davis, whom the Lions acquired in a trade last year, made an immediate impact, starting 13 games and tallying 11 passes defended, two interceptions, and 56 tackles. Coach Dan Campbell has repeatedly praised Davis for his physicality and versatility, calling him one of the team’s best acquisitions. Davis, in turn, has spoken highly of Campbell, calling him the best coach he’s ever played for.
While there is mutual interest in a return, Detroit will have to make a competitive offer to keep Davis in the fold. If he walks, the Lions could be left with a major hole in their secondary as they look to build on last season’s success.
