The Detroit Lions have secured the future of their home stadium, extending their partnership with Ford Motor Company to keep the name “Ford Field” in place through the 2036 season. This renewal solidifies one of the team’s longest-standing relationships.
Lions CEO Rod Wood highlighted the importance of the extension, emphasizing Ford’s key role in bringing the team back to downtown Detroit in 2002. He noted that Ford’s continued support has been instrumental in the Lions’ growth.
Jim Farley, Ford’s President and CEO, echoed this sentiment, calling the Lions and Ford “perfect partners,” both deeply tied to Detroit’s history. He credited Bill Ford for leading the charge to establish Ford Field and praised the stadium’s role in revitalizing the city.
Since its opening in 2002, Ford Field has been a major sports and entertainment hub in downtown Detroit. To commemorate the renewed deal, the Lions released a special video featuring key team figures like head coach Dan Campbell, running back David Montgomery, and franchise icon Barry Sanders. The video also included Detroit-based artists Big Sean and Kid Rock, reinforcing the cultural connection between the team and the city.
This agreement ensures that Ford Field will remain a symbol of Detroit’s resilience and passion for football well into the next decade.
