Lions Consider All-Pro Edge Rusher Za’Darius Smith’s Comeback; AFC Teams Ready to Intervene

Lions Interested in Bringing Back Za’Darius Smith, But Chargers and Ravens Lurking
Detroit open to reunion with veteran pass rusher, but competition could heat up post-draft

The Detroit Lions are reportedly keeping the door open for a reunion with veteran edge rusher Za’Darius Smith. After being released earlier this offseason to create salary cap space, GM Brad Holmes hinted the team could re-sign Smith depending on how the draft plays out. Smith stepped in during Aidan Hutchinson’s injury absence and proved he’s still a reliable rotational pass rusher.

However, Detroit might need to move quickly if they want to bring him back. The Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens are reportedly eyeing the All-Pro as well. The Chargers, now without Joey Bosa, could pair Smith with Khalil Mack to boost their pass rush. Meanwhile, the Ravens may look to reunite with the former fourth-round pick to bolster a defense that’s lost key contributors like Jadeveon Clowney and Malik Harrison.

While Smith’s age and mileage may limit his snaps, his consistent production could make him a valuable piece for any contender—especially one looking for a veteran presence off the edge.
