Don’t be surprised if the Detroit Lions double up at edge rusher in this year’s NFL Draft. Brad Holmes has made it a habit to attack position groups aggressively, and it might happen again in 2025.
It’s worked before—like in 2021 with Levi Onwuzurike and Alim McNeill, or 2022 with a trio of edge rushers, including Aidan Hutchinson. Just last year, Holmes hit cornerback hard with both Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw. Now, with pass rush still a glaring need, The Athletic’s Colton Pouncy thinks we could see a repeat—this time with edge defenders.
With three picks in the top 102 and a deep draft class at the position, the timing makes sense. Relying on Marcus Davenport to stay healthy and hold down a starting role isn’t ideal, and the veteran free-agent market is thin. Doubling up with two rookies might not solve the problem immediately, but it increases the odds that one becomes a long-term starter—and maybe even both.
