Detroit Lions Make History with Four First-Team All-Pro Honors, Highlighting Kerby Joseph’s Breakout Season
The Detroit Lions have solidified their status as one of the NFL’s top teams in 2024, matching a franchise record with six players named to the prestigious AP All-Pro Team. Four of those players earned coveted First-Team honors, showcasing the team’s dominance on both sides of the ball.
A Historic All-Pro Year for the Lions
This year’s All-Pro selections mirror the Lions’ exceptional season, tying the 1991 team for the most All-Pro picks since the AFL/NFL merger in 1970. The First-Team honorees include wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, offensive tackle Penei Sewell, safety Kerby Joseph, and punter Jack Fox. Meanwhile, center Frank Ragnow and punt returner Kalif Raymond earned Second-Team honors.
For St. Brown and Sewell, this marks back-to-back First-Team selections, reflecting their consistent excellence. Fox, previously a Second-Team All-Pro, and Joseph both celebrated their first appearances on the First-Team roster.
Kerby Joseph Turns Pro Bowl Snub into All-Pro Glory
Safety Kerby Joseph’s omission from the Pro Bowl sparked discussion, but he responded in the best way possible—by being named a First-Team All-Pro. Leading the league with nine interceptions, Joseph added a career-high 83 tackles and 12 passes defended, earning him the highest safety grade by Pro Football Focus (PFF).
When asked about the Pro Bowl snub, Joseph remained focused on bigger goals.
“I ain’t trying to be in the Pro Bowl. I’m trying to be in that Super Bowl. I feel like All-Pro is the real recognition that people give,” Joseph told Lions.com.
His stellar performance proved that real recognition goes beyond fan votes.
Amon-Ra St. Brown and Penei Sewell Continue Elite Play
Amon-Ra St. Brown once again established himself as one of the league’s premier receivers. He recorded 115 receptions, 1,263 yards, and 12 touchdowns, becoming just the third player in NFL history with at least 115 catches and 10 touchdowns in consecutive seasons.
Penei Sewell dominated the trenches, allowing only one sack across more than 600 pass-blocking snaps. His PFF run-blocking grade of 90.5 ranked second among all offensive tackles, underlining his importance in both pass protection and the Lions’ dynamic rushing attack.
Jack Fox Leads the NFL in Punting
Jack Fox emerged as the league’s top punter, leading in both average yards per punt (51.0) and net average (45.8). He now holds the NFL record for the highest career punting average at 48.8 yards per punt, providing the Lions with a critical edge in field position battles.
Fox learned of his First-Team honor in a heartfelt moment shared by special teams teammates Jake Bates and Hogan Hatten, reflecting the strong chemistry within the Lions’ locker room.
Frank Ragnow and Kalif Raymond Shine on Second Team
Frank Ragnow earned his third Second-Team All-Pro selection, continuing to anchor the Lions’ offensive line despite battling through injuries. Though he has yet to crack the First-Team list, Ragnow remains a vital piece of Detroit’s offensive success.
Kalif Raymond, despite missing five games, led the league in punt return yards (413) and ranked third in average yards per return (13.8), securing his second career Second-Team All-Pro nod.
