Detroit Lions Show Love for Fans with Spectacular Drone Display Over the Detroit River
On Saturday evening, a stunning drone light show lit up the Detroit River, showcasing the Detroit Lions’ gratitude and excitement as the team enters the NFL playoffs. Over 400 drones soared into the night sky from Riverfront Festival Plaza, creating a dazzling array of images and phrases in support of the Lions and their fans.
A Mesmerizing Display
The drones formed the iconic Lions logo, the American and Canadian flags side by side, and even a tribute to wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown’s famous headstand celebration. The captivating animations left spectators, including German exchange student Mirko Nilovic, in awe.
“I’ve never seen a drone show before, and I just liked how the animations went so fluently by,” Nilovic said. “The lion moving in looked just incredible.”
Fan Reactions
As the drones aligned to spell out phrases like “Jared Goff” and “Two nations, one pride,” cheers erupted from the crowd of fans, many clad in the team’s signature Honolulu blue. Adam Foy, another attendee, was particularly impressed by the variety and creativity of the show.
“The two flags were really cool. The various lighting, the animations… I love the one of the guy doing the handstand. That was pretty awesome,” Foy said.
A Celebration for Canadian Fans
Originally scheduled for Friday, the show was postponed due to heavy snowfall, but the rescheduled event turned into a celebration of the Lions’ Canadian fanbase. The show’s location, Windsor, Ontario, right across the river from Detroit, was a nod to the team’s passionate followers in both the United States and Canada.
Irene Braykovich, a Lions fan and season ticket holder, applauded the event but wished for a longer performance.
“It was a bit short. I was hoping it might be a little bit longer, but a great turnout for Windsor fans,” Braykovich shared.
Lions’ Playoff Hopes
As the Detroit Lions head into a historic playoff run with a bye in the Wild Card Round, the drone show symbolizes the growing unity between Detroit and Windsor as they cheer for the team’s success. Braykovich expressed her excitement, hopeful that the Lions will make their first Super Bowl appearance.
“It’s absolutely huge, and for this city, but especially for Detroit and everyone that’s been a longtime Lions fan,” Braykovich said. “This is something that we’ve waited for a very long time, and we really hope to see them in the Super Bowl.”
The City of Windsor, in partnership with the Detroit Lions and the NFL, made the special event possible, bringing a unique and unforgettable experience to fans on both sides of the Detroit River.
