The Detroit Lions have taken a patient approach in free agency, but with over $40 million in cap space, they still have room to make a splash. One intriguing possibility? Six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen.
Kyle Soppe of Pro Football and Sports Network listed the Lions as a potential landing spot for Allen, who was recently released by the Chicago Bears. While head coach Dan Campbell has emphasized adding young competition at receiver, Allen would bring a veteran presence and a proven track record.
At 33, Allen is coming off a down year with just 70 catches for 744 yards—far below his 2023 production. Some of that can be attributed to playing in a struggling Bears offense with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. Even so, he’d be an upgrade over Tim Patrick and could give Detroit’s high-powered offense another reliable weapon.
Brad Holmes has been strategic with spending, so this move remains unlikely, but if the Lions decide to flex their financial muscle, Allen could be an interesting late-offseason addition.
