Lions Expected to Lock Up Jameson Williams With New Deal Soon

The Detroit Lions could be on the verge of rewarding one of their rising stars.

According to a recent episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, reporter Jeff Risdon strongly hinted that wide receiver Jameson Williams might be the next player in line for a contract extension. When asked to choose between Williams, kicker Jake Bates, and tight end Brock Wright, Risdon didn’t hesitate.

“Jamo is getting done sooner rather than later,” he said. “Very, very, extraordinarily confident on that.”

That confidence follows Detroit’s decision to pick up the fifth-year option on Williams, who was a first-round pick in 2022. That move already locks him in for a $15.5 million payday in 2026, but the Lions could be looking to secure his future even further.

And it’s no surprise, really. Williams has earned praise this offseason for his dedication—spending extra hours in the weight room, adding muscle, and diving into new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand’s system. Reportedly, he’s put on five pounds of muscle to help with physical matchups and route-running.

“I talked to a couple people, and they told me why they lift weights and what it helps them with,” Williams said. “I’m a little guy. DBs like to reroute and stuff like that, so I gotta run through the middle across linebackers. I just had to get my strength up a little bit, that’s it.”

With added strength, a growing grasp of the offense, and a front office that clearly believes in him, Williams looks like he’s set for a breakout season—and maybe a big new contract to go with it.
