Lions Eyeing $21 Million Bills Free Agent as a Perfect Match

The Detroit Lions have been making moves at cornerback this offseason. Since free agency opened, they’ve already brought in three veterans. First, they signed D.J. Reed to take over as their top corner, replacing Carlton Davis. Then, they added Rock Ya-Sin from the 49ers for extra depth. Most recently, they picked up Avonte Maddox, who will help out in the slot.

Even with all these additions   and the fact that they drafted two corners early last year   Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks the Lions might not be done yet. He named Detroit as a top landing spot for former Bills corner Rasul Douglas in an article about the best fits for remaining free agents.

Douglas would be a bigger-name signing than their last two additions, but there’s a catch  he’s coming off the worst season of his career. In 2024, quarterbacks completed nearly 73% of their passes when targeting him, and he gave up a passer rating of 122.0. That’s a huge drop from his 2023 performance, when he held QBs to a 51.3% completion rate and just 5.9 yards per target in his nine games with Buffalo.

If the Lions think Douglas can bounce back to his 2023 form, they might consider bringing him in to compete for a spot. But with their cornerback room already packed, it seems unlikely they’ll take that gamble.
