If you’ve been online lately, you’ve probably seen it: the Lions trade rumors are heating up — and the internet is doing everything in its power to speak a deal into existence.
For months now, Detroit fans have been clamoring for help on the edge. First, it was Maxx Crosby. Then, Myles Garrett made a cameo in the rumor mill. Now, the new favorite name in the mix? Bengals star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson.
According to Bleacher Report, Hendrickson remains one of the best defenders potentially on the market, even though the Bengals and the veteran pass rusher have reportedly resumed contract talks. The problem? Nothing’s close to done — and teams like the Lions should absolutely be checking in.
Let’s be real: Hendrickson opposite Aidan Hutchinson would be a dream pairing. The guy has put up 17.5 sacks in each of the last two seasons — production that speaks for itself. And while Detroit did sign Marcus Davenport this offseason, Hendrickson would be a massive upgrade in that role.
Detroit had a quiet offseason by most standards, but making a splash for a top-tier defender like Hendrickson would flip the narrative instantly. With the NFC North getting stronger, the Lions may need to make a move just to stay ahead of the pack.
It’s still speculation for now, but as far as pipe dreams go, this one actually makes sense.
