Detroit Lions fans are proving once again just how much heart they have. After center Frank Ragnow officially announced his retirement earlier this week, the fanbase responded in an incredible way—by raising over $11,000 (and counting) for Ragnow’s nonprofit, the Rags Remembered Foundation.
The foundation, which Ragnow launched to support grieving families through outdoor therapy and counseling, received a wave of donations almost immediately. Fans took to social media and started donating in symbolic amounts of $77 or $7.70, a nod to Ragnow’s jersey number during his seven years in Detroit.
The initial surge raised nearly $10,000 in just 24 hours. By the end of Friday, that number had grown to $11,000. Then on Saturday, the foundation welcomed 40 children to “Camp Huddle Up,” a free grief-support event filled with outdoor fun and emotional healing.
In total, the foundation announced it has raised over $187,000, thanks to the generosity of fans, online donors, and events like the annual Skeet Shoot Showdown.
Ragnow’s impact clearly went far beyond the football field, and Lions fans are making sure he knows it. If you’d like to contribute, donations can still be made at ragsrememberedfoundation.org.
