DETROIT – The Detroit Lions and Ford Motor Company are continuing their long-standing partnership, announcing an extension of their stadium naming rights agreement. Ford Field, which has been the Lions’ home since 2002, will proudly retain its name under this renewed multiyear deal, making it one of the longest-running naming partnerships in the NFL.
This agreement reaffirms both organizations’ dedication to investing in downtown Detroit, strengthening their connection to the city and its passionate sports fans.
“Renewing our relationship with Ford Motor Company has always been a top priority for us,” said Detroit Lions President and CEO Rod Wood. “Ford was an integral partner in our move back to downtown Detroit in 2002 and continues to be valuable to the growth of our brand. We are proud to have an iconic, Detroit-founded company’s name on our building for the foreseeable future.”
Ford’s President and CEO, Jim Farley, highlighted the deep connection between the two brands. “Ford and the Lions are perfect partners – two iconic organizations that are both deeply rooted in Detroit,” Farley said. “Ever since Bill Ford spearheaded bringing Ford Field downtown, this stadium has helped drive Detroit’s comeback and hosted some of the biggest events in sports and entertainment. And just like our hometown, our Ford and Lions teams are defined by hard work and grit. So, we couldn’t be prouder to have the Lions and their fans keep calling their home ‘Ford Field.'”
Since opening in 2002, Ford Field has solidified its reputation as a premier sports and entertainment venue in the Midwest. It has hosted major events, including Super Bowl XL in 2006, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four in 2009, and the NCAA Frozen Four in 2010. The stadium is already set to welcome the 2027 NCAA Men’s Final Four and is in contention for additional major sporting events.
Beyond sports, Ford Field has become a major concert destination, attracting world-renowned artists such as Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones, Eminem, Kid Rock, and Garth Brooks. In 2023, Kenny Chesney set an attendance record at the venue, drawing 560,000 fans across twelve performances. Upcoming acts for 2025 include AC/DC, Post Malone, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA, Chris Brown, Billy Joel, and Stevie Nicks. The stadium will also host the Michigan State vs. Maryland college football game.
Since its inception, Ford Field has welcomed over 30 million visitors, cementing its place as a key part of Detroit’s sports and entertainment landscape. With this renewed partnership, its legacy will continue for years to come.
