Lions Fans React to Kid Rock’s Appearance in Ford Field Announcement

The Detroit Lions officially announced the renewal of their naming rights partnership with Ford for Ford Field, a move that was expected given the Ford family’s ownership of the team. However, the news wasn’t what stirred up controversy—it was the team’s choice to feature Kid Rock in the announcement video that set social media ablaze.

The promotional clip included a mix of Detroit icons: rapper Big Sean, head coach Dan Campbell, Lions legend Barry Sanders, and current running back David Montgomery. But it was Kid Rock’s appearance that drew immediate backlash from fans, who flooded the comments demanding his removal. Some argued that he no longer represents Detroit, pointing to his suburban upbringing in Romeo, Michigan, and his current residence in Nashville. Others called for Eminem to be included instead, given his longtime support for the team.

Criticism of Kid Rock’s association with Detroit isn’t new. During last year’s playoff run, Jared Goff was asked which celebrity he’d love to see at a game, and he named Kid Rock. That alone sparked outrage from fans who claimed he was an out-of-touch choice for representing the city. Much of the backlash seems tied to political disagreements, as Kid Rock has been an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump, which has polarized his perception among fans.

While some fans were outraged, others dismissed the controversy, pointing out that the Lions have much bigger things to focus on—like winning their first Super Bowl. Despite losing both of their coordinators this offseason and facing high expectations after their 2024 NFC Championship appearance, some fans seemed more upset about a promotional video than the team’s actual on-field future.

For now, the Kid Rock debate continues, but one thing remains clear: no matter how successful the Lions become, their off-the-field decisions will always be a source of passionate debate among the fanbase.
