The Detroit Lions seem committed to keeping one of their most dynamic young playmakers around for the foreseeable future.

On Monday, Lions general manager Brad Holmes confirmed that the team is leaning toward picking up the fifth-year option on wide receiver Jameson Williams. If exercised, this move would secure Williams’ spot on the roster through the 2026 season with a guaranteed salary of $15.493 million.

“Look, it’s heading that way that we are most likely gonna be doing that,” Holmes stated during the NFL’s annual league meetings, according to ESPN.

Jameson Williams: A Rising Star

Selected in the first round of the draft, Williams has steadily found his footing in Detroit’s high-powered offense. With his elite speed and knack for making big plays, he has become a reliable weapon alongside Pro Bowl receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

While he’s still developing, the Lions clearly believe in his potential. Exercising the fifth-year option provides Williams with financial stability while giving the team added flexibility in shaping their roster for the future.

Future Contract Possibilities

Picking up the option doesn’t necessarily mean the Lions won’t explore a long-term deal before Williams’ current contract expires. The team could still negotiate an extension down the road, and if necessary, they have the option to use the franchise tag in 2027 to ensure he remains in Detroit even longer.

For now, the message is clear: The Lions view Jameson Williams as a key part of their offensive future.
