Lions’ “Golden Opportunity” Could Be Tarnished by Campbell-Morton Disconnect

Detroit enters Week 10 with a chance to bounce back — and fast. After last week’s frustrating loss to the Vikings, the Lions are staring at what looks like a perfect rebound setup: a Commanders defense ranked near the bottom of the league.

But instead of all eyes being on Jahmyr Gibbs’ breakout potential or Jameson Williams’ deep threat, the spotlight has shifted somewhere unexpected — the coaching room.

Head coach Dan Campbell and offensive coordinator John Morton don’t seem to be humming the same tune. Campbell told reporters, “We did not handle some of the communication well… we’re better than that,” while Morton countered confidently that, “Our communication has been really good.”

That’s not just mixed messaging — that’s a full-on audible gone wrong.

With Ben Johnson gone and Morton still trying to cement his rhythm as OC, the Lions can’t afford confusion in the cockpit. Their NFC North rivals are all at .500 or better, meaning every week — and every snap — matters more than ever.

The Commanders’ defense just got shredded by Sam Darnold (yes, that Sam Darnold), who threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns. On paper, this should be Detroit’s “get right” game. But if Campbell and Morton aren’t seeing the field the same way, that golden opportunity might just turn into another Sunday headache.
