The Detroit Lions could be in a prime spot to make a draft-day deal—with the Kansas City Chiefs eyeing a move up the board. Sitting at No. 28 overall, the Lions are just three spots ahead of Kansas City, who holds the 31st pick. With both teams sharing similar needs in the trenches, a trade between the two makes plenty of sense.
According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, the Chiefs are considering jumping up “a couple of slots” if the price is right. That opens the door for Lions GM Brad Holmes to consider a slight trade down, especially if Detroit believes it can still land a target player a few picks later.
One simple scenario? The Lions give up No. 28 and receive picks 31 and 133 (a fourth-rounder). A more complex option could involve Detroit also sending pick 102 and getting back 31, 95, and 133—giving them more Day 2 flexibility.
With defensive linemen expected to fly off the board early, per ESPN’s Dan Graziano, this could be the kind of value-savvy move that helps Detroit reload without reaching. The Lions already boast a competitive roster, and adding extra picks could be the key to bolstering depth while still landing a quality player at the end of Round 1.
