Lions Led the NFL in Scoring in 2024, Proving They’re Built to Light Up the Scoreboard

If you were watching the Detroit Lions last season, it probably felt like they scored at will. That’s because… they basically did.

The Lions finished 2024 with the most points scored in the entire NFL — racking up a ridiculous 564 points during their 15-2 run. They didn’t just win the NFC North; they bulldozed their way through the regular season behind one of the league’s most balanced and efficient offensive attacks.

Led by Jared Goff and backed by breakout stars like Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit didn’t just top the charts in points per game (33.2), they also led in touchdown efficiency (37.4%) and had a 51.6% scoring rate overall. That means they scored on more than half their drives — and did it with touchdowns far more often than settling for field goals.

For context: Buffalo was second in touchdown efficiency… at 35.8%. The gap may not sound huge, but in the NFL, it’s significant.

Even with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson now heading the Chicago Bears, the Lions’ core group remains mostly intact. The offensive pieces that fueled last year’s dominance are back — and Detroit is hoping that continuity keeps them firing on all cylinders.

The Lions made a clear statement in 2024: they’re not just trying to win — they’re trying to score you into submission.
