Detroit Lions fans just got some good news and it’s all about Malcolm Rodriguez.
After tearing his ACL during the Thanksgiving game against the Bears, most people assumed the linebacker might be out for the 2025 season or at least a good chunk of it. But on Friday, Rodriguez surprised everyone by posting a video of himself already sprinting just a little over four months after the injury.
Now, it wasn’t an all-out sprint, but still seeing him run at all this soon after major knee surgery is a great sign. Especially considering how banged up the Lions’ defense was last year, getting Rodriguez back on the field could be a game-changer.
He’s entering the final year of his rookie deal and is technically fourth on the depth chart behind Jack Campbell, Alex Anzalone, and Derrick Barnes (who’s also coming off an injury). Still, Rodriguez has always been the kind of player who finds ways to make an impact whether it’s on special teams or rotating in at linebacker.
If he keeps making progress like this, don’t be surprised if he earns a bigger role as the season rolls on.
