The Detroit Lions received encouraging news as linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez is set to return to practice this week. Head coach Dan Campbell confirmed that Rodriguez, who suffered an ACL tear during last year’s Thanksgiving game against the Buffalo Bills, will begin practicing ahead of the team’s Week 9 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.
Rodriguez’s return is timely, as the Lions recently placed veteran linebacker Zach Cunningham on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. Despite Cunningham’s absence, the Lions have maintained strong linebacker depth with players like Jack Campbell, Alex Anzalone, Derrick Barnes, and special teams contributors Grant Stuard and Trevor Nowaske.
While Rodriguez is expected to resume practice this week, he is not anticipated to return to game action until mid-November, with a potential debut against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11. His versatility and special teams prowess will provide a valuable boost to the Lions’ defense as they approach the latter half of the season.
