The Detroit Lions have stacked up on cornerbacks this offseason, making their secondary pretty crowded. They already had Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Amik Robertson, and Morice Norris returning from last year. But now, they’ve re-signed Khalil Dorsey and brought in D.J. Reed, Avonte Maddox, and Rock Ya-Sin.
With all that depth, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher now thinks one of the returning corners Amik Robertson could be a trade candidate. In a recent article, Knox suggested that the Buffalo Bills should make a move for Robertson to strengthen their secondary.
Robertson’s situation is tricky. The Lions’ signing of D.J. Reed means he’s not going to be a starter in 2025. Plus, if Rakestraw steps up, Robertson might drop even further down the depth chart. Since this is the final year of his contract, he could end up with a much smaller role than he’d like.
On the other hand, the Bills need help at cornerback. They were average at stopping the pass last season, allowing 7.1 yards per attempt. Losing Rasul Douglas in free agency after he started 15 games for them only made things worse.
Now, the Lions probably won’t part with defensive depth unless they really have to especially after injuries hurt them in 2024. But if they have their eyes on another free agent or draft pick, a deal could be on the table.
For now, it doesn’t look like Detroit is in a rush to trade Robertson. But with plenty of offseason left, the Bills could be a logical landing spot if the Lions decide to move him.
