Lions Lock Down Defense, Sign CB Rock Ya-Sin

The Detroit Lions are adding some experience to their cornerback group, signing veteran Rock Ya-Sin, per NFL Network.

Ya-Sin, 28, spent last season with the San Francisco 49ers, mostly playing on special teams. He appeared in 13 games but recorded just three tackles. Now, he’s headed to Detroit to provide depth behind their top corners.

The Lions have already made moves to strengthen their secondary, signing free agent CB DJ Reed to a three-year, $48 million deal. Reed is expected to take over for Carlton Davis, who left for the New England Patriots.

Right now, Detroit’s cornerback group is a mix of veterans and young talent. Amik Robertson, 26, stepped up as the team’s top cover corner last season after Davis suffered a broken jaw. The Lions also have two 2024 draft picks in the mix—Terrion Arnold (first round) and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. (second round). Arnold is likely to start again after an impressive rookie season, while Rakestraw is still looking to get fully healthy after dealing with a hamstring injury.

Ya-Sin brings some experience to the table, having played for the Colts, Raiders, Ravens, and 49ers since being drafted in the second round in 2019. Over 79 career games (39 starts), he has 199 tackles, two interceptions, and 41 passes defended.

Now, he gets a fresh start in Detroit, where the Lions hope he can add some much-needed depth to their defensive backfield.
