The Detroit Lions are regrouping after a heartbreaking 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round of the playoffs. Despite being one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl, the Lions couldn’t convert at home and will now focus on how to bounce back in 2025.
To kick off their offseason, the Lions have signed 11 players from their practice squad to reserve/future contracts, as well as re-signed safety Morice Norris. Norris, a rookie cornerback, had a limited role during the regular season, playing primarily on special teams, but he stepped in due to a hamstring injury to Ifeatu Melifonwu during the playoff game. Although Norris gave up two completions, he contributed with three tackles during his brief appearance. After initially being waived in August, Norris was re-signed by the Lions in late September and promoted to the active roster in December, providing potential depth in the secondary for 2025.
In addition to these moves, the Lions received disappointing news after the loss to the Commanders. Head coach Dan Campbell confirmed that cornerback Amik Robertson suffered a broken arm during the game and will undergo surgery. Robertson, who had a strong season after joining the Lions from the Las Vegas Raiders, was a key contributor on defense, ranking among the top 100 cornerbacks in the league. His strong play in the final weeks of the regular season, including his work against Justin Jefferson in Week 18, helped elevate Detroit’s defense. Robertson still has one year remaining on his contract, and while the injury is unfortunate, he could be a candidate for an extension if he continues his solid play.
With key coaching staff potentially leaving, including offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, the Lions face uncertainty, but they remain hopeful for a stronger 2025 campaign. Fans and players alike will look for a swift recovery for Robertson and a revamped team ready to make another playoff push next season.
