Za’Darius Smith might not be on the Detroit Lions’ roster anymore, but that didn’t stop him from making headlines this week — just not for anything on the field.
The former Lions edge rusher turned heads on the red carpet at the BET Awards, showing up with his girlfriend, Detroit rapper and actress Kash Doll. The two rolled up in matching outfits, shared some PDA for the cameras, and basically stole the spotlight.
Fans online were all about it, with comments like “Who else is hyped?” and “This makes me feel on top of the world!” flooding social media. And honestly, you can’t blame them — Kash Doll’s been a Motor City favorite for years, and the couple’s been stirring up dating rumors since back in March.
As for Smith’s football future? That’s still TBD. He was solid in Detroit last season with nine sacks and 22 solo tackles after being traded from the Browns. But the Lions let him walk this offseason to give Marcus Davenport and others more room to shine.
Detroit’s defensive line is already looking stacked for 2025 with Davenport, Alim McNeill, DJ Reader, and Aidan Hutchinson leading the charge. Even so, some fans are still holding out hope that Smith could make a return — though he’s also been linked to the Bills.
For now, though, Smith seems to be enjoying the offseason life. Football or not, he’s still making waves — just with a different kind of spotlight.
