The Detroit Lions are stacked at running back with David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Sione Vaki all locked in through at least 2026—but that doesn’t mean they’re done adding to the room. With just four backs currently under contract and a long training camp ahead, Detroit could dip into the late rounds of the draft or even the UDFA pool to add depth and competition.
Names like UC-Davis standout Lan Larison, Michigan’s Kalel Mullings, and Clemson bruiser Phil Mafah have been floated as possible Day 3 targets. Larison, in particular, has the Lions’ attention after a top-30 visit. He brings a gritty, do-it-all resume that fits Detroit’s culture to a tee. And don’t sleep on Jaydon Blue, a familiar name to new RBs coach Tashard Choice from their Texas days.
