The idea of Myles Garrett in a Detroit Lions uniform is gaining traction, even if the Cleveland Browns aren’t exactly rolling out the welcome mat for trade discussions. Garrett, the reigning 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, has made it known that he wants out, but the Browns are holding firm—for now. The big question is: Should the Lions make a move?
NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah thinks so. During a recent conference call, he made it clear that Detroit is an ideal landing spot if Cleveland changes its stance.
“That was the team that made the most sense for me with Myles Garrett, Detroit,” Jeremiah said, per SI.com. “Detroit has the roster that’s ready to win right now, ready to win a championship, and that could be a finishing piece.”
Jeremiah acknowledged that the Browns seem unwilling to move their star pass rusher, but if they did, the Lions should pounce. He emphasized that an aggressive approach from Detroit GM Brad Holmes could be the final piece in bringing a championship parade to the Motor City.
From a roster-building standpoint, the Lions have generally avoided splashy, blockbuster trades, preferring to build through the draft and strategic free-agent signings. But when a generational talent like Garrett becomes even a remote possibility, it’s hard to ignore the potential impact. Pairing Garrett with Aidan Hutchinson could transform Detroit’s defense into one of the most feared in the league.
As things stand, the Browns are holding firm. But as the offseason unfolds, pressure from Garrett and the right offer from a contender like the Lions could change the equation. If that happens, expect Detroit to be right in the mix.
