Could the Lions Add More Power to Their Offensive Line with Grey Zabel?
The Detroit Lions have made it clear that building a dominant offensive line is a priority, and they might not be done adding talent to the group. One name to watch as the NFL Draft approaches is North Dakota State’s Grey Zabel, a versatile and physical lineman who could be in play for the Lions at Pick 28.
Zabel, a 6-foot-6, 300-pound lineman, played left tackle last season but is projected to shift inside to guard at the next level. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah sees him as a Day 1 starter at guard, citing his elite pass-blocking and run-blocking grades—he allowed just one sack and two QB hits across 970 snaps last season.
Why the Lions Could Be Interested
The Lions’ offensive line is strong, but with Kevin Zeitler hitting free agency and Graham Glasgow entering the final year of his contract, adding youth to the interior could be smart. Christian Mahogany showed promise in his rookie season, but depth is always key.
Zabel also has a connection to the Lions, having played under new tight ends coach Tyler Roehl at North Dakota State. He recently met with Lions assistant OL coach Steve Oliver at the NFL Combine, a meeting he described as a good time where his football knowledge was tested.
With his versatility, toughness, and experience, Zabel could be a great fit for Detroit’s physical style and a long-term piece of their offensive line.
