Lions’ Offensive Line Locked In — But Camp Battles Could Shape the Future

The Detroit Lions head into the 2025 season with one of the NFL’s most stable offensive lines — but don’t think for a second the competition behind them isn’t heating up.

With veterans like Taylor Decker, Frank Ragnow, and Penei Sewell locking down the starting five, the Lions’ front line is set. Add in second-year guard Christian Mahogany, who’s stepping into a full-time starting role, and you’ve got a unit that’s as tough as they come.

But the real intrigue? It’s happening behind the scenes.

Detroit brought in Georgia rookie Tate Ratledge and LSU’s Miles Frazier to bolster the guard spots. Ratledge, a second-round pick, looks like a future starter, while Frazier has the tools but needs to prove he can play multiple roles. Veteran Netane Muti is in the mix too, but he’s battling for his roster life.

At tackle, fan favorite Dan Skipper will need to fend off rising prospect Giovanni Manu and versatile Colby Sorsdal. Manu’s raw athleticism makes him one of camp’s most fascinating players, while Sorsdal’s ability to fill multiple spots gives him an edge.

Keep an eye on Mahogany, too. The Lions love his potential, but don’t be surprised if Ratledge gets some snaps to keep him sharp.

Bottom line: The Lions have one of the deepest offensive line groups of the Brad Holmes era. If they stay healthy, this unit could anchor another playoff run — and the summer battles will only make them stronger.
