Lions Pulled a Power Move—D.J. Reed Signing Ranks Among NFL’s Best

Lions’ D.J. Reed Signing Getting Major Love as One of NFL’s Best Offseason Moves

The Detroit Lions made a splash this offseason by locking down veteran cornerback D.J. Reed with a three-year, \$48 million deal—and it’s already turning heads around the league.

Reed is expected to play a big role in Detroit’s defense, possibly even stepping in as their top corner. He brings serious experience and is known for locking down top receivers, which is exactly what the Lions need as they aim for a deep playoff run. That role could shift depending on how rookies Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw develop, but there’s no doubt Reed adds instant value.

Bleacher Report recently ranked the top 25 moves of the NFL offseason, and the Lions’ signing of Reed came in at No. 17. Not bad at all, especially considering Detroit was dead last in the NFC when it came to pass defense in 2024. Losing Carlton Davis III in free agency left a hole, and according to B/R’s Gary Davenport, the Lions didn’t just fill it—they upgraded.

Davenport pointed out that Reed hasn’t allowed a passer rating over 90 since 2019. That kind of consistency is exactly what Detroit’s secondary has been missing.

For context, the Bears took the top spot on that offseason moves list thanks to their big changes on the offensive line—but the Lions getting a corner like Reed still made a big impression.
