David Montgomery isn’t just showing up to training camp—he’s showing up starving for more.
After helping the Detroit Lions come within striking distance of the Super Bowl last season, the veteran running back made it clear: being “close” isn’t good enough anymore.
“This is the hungriest that I have been,” Montgomery declared. “I’m tired of being close. We all are. It’s time to finish.”
Montgomery was a key part of the Lions’ ground attack in 2024, rushing for over 1,000 yards and forming a dangerous 1-2 punch with Jahmyr Gibbs. But personal stats mean little to him now. His focus is locked on winning it all—and that mindset is spreading through the locker room.
As the Lions kick off training camp, Montgomery is embracing his leadership role and holding himself and teammates to a higher standard. For him, 2025 isn’t about making noise—it’s about finishing what they started.
