Lions Re-Sign Key Special Teams Contributor to Strengthen Secondary

Lions Re-Sign Khalil Dorsey to Strengthen Secondary and Special Teams

The Detroit Lions are keeping key depth in their secondary, re-signing cornerback Khalil Dorsey. The move comes just hours after the team added veteran cornerback Rock Ya-Sin, further bolstering their defensive backfield.

Dorsey, 26, has carved out a role in Detroit as both a rotational corner and a special teams standout. In 2023, he played 248 special teams snaps in 13 games, and his role expanded last season with 272 special teams snaps and a career-high 73 snaps on defense. He finished the year with 14 tackles, two passes defended, and four kick returns for 159 yards.

However, his 2024 campaign was cut short due to a severe ankle injury suffered in Week 15 against the Buffalo Bills. Now back under contract, Dorsey joins a revamped cornerback group that includes D.J. Reed, Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw, Amik Robertson, Stantley Thomas-Oliver, and the newly signed Ya-Sin.

With Dorsey healthy and returning to a familiar system, the Lions are reinforcing a special teams unit that was among the league’s best last season.
