Mel Kiper has unveiled his latest two-round NFL mock draft, and it shows the Detroit Lions making key moves to strengthen their roster. In this updated version, Kiper has the Lions selecting a defensive end in the first round and an offensive lineman in the second.

With the 28th overall pick, the Lions have set their sights on Boston College edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku. This pick aligns with Detroit’s ongoing effort to build a stronger defensive line alongside standout Aidan Hutchinson. Though Marcus Davenport has been brought back after an injury-plagued 2024 season, additional help is crucial for improving the team’s pass rush. Kiper noted, “The Lions’ defense was hammered by injuries last season. Even before the injured reserve started filling up, though, the edge rush depth chart was concerning. Aidan Hutchinson — who is coming off a leg injury — needs a running mate. The only other Detroit edge rusher with more than three sacks last season was Za’Darius Smith (four), who was acquired at midseason and released this spring.”

Ezeiruaku, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 248 pounds, impressed last season with 65 pressures and 16.5 sacks, making him a top prospect for the Lions. His consistent performance has made him a frequent target in mock drafts since December.

In the second round, the Lions shift focus to the offensive line, with Kiper predicting they will select Andy Belton, an imposing 6-foot-6, 336-pound tackle from NC State, with the 60th pick. Detroit recently lost veteran Kevin Zeitler in free agency, and Belton could offer immediate help. “Belton has played all but 11 of his 2,146 career snaps at left tackle. However, he could slide inside in the pros — and the Lions might opt for that in Year 1,” Kiper explained.
