Lions Add 3 New Faces After Rookie Minicamp, Say Goodbye to One
The Detroit Lions officially filled out their 90-man roster after rookie minicamp—and three tryout players just landed spots on the team. Tight end Luke Deal, wide receiver Malik Taylor, and defensive lineman Raequan Williams impressed enough over the weekend to earn contracts. To make room, the Lions waived undrafted rookie tight end Caden Prieskorn.
Here’s the quick breakdown on the new guys:
Luke Deal: A massive tight end (6’5”, 259 lbs) out of Auburn who played a whopping 64 games in college—the most in school history. He was mainly used as a blocker and even captained the team in his final two seasons. He brings solid pass protection and instantly becomes the biggest TE on the Lions roster.
Malik Taylor: Not a rookie, but a journeyman WR who’s been in the league since 2019. He’s had stints with the Bucs, Packers, and Jets, showing flashes of speed (4.46) and versatility. He’s played in 28 games and adds some veteran depth to the Lions’ receiver room.
Raequan Williams: Another NFL vet who went undrafted out of Michigan State. Williams has suited up for seven games across time with the Eagles, Jags, and Panthers. At 6’4” and 305 lbs, he brings size and experience to Detroit’s defensive line rotation.
Three longshots made the cut—and the Lions are one step closer to shaping their final roster.
