Lions Shake Up Offseason Plans With Big Reveal

Detroit Extends Partnership With Ford Field Through 2036

The Detroit Lions are making waves this offseason with a major announcement that reinforces their deep-rooted connection to the city. While the NFL offseason typically brings roster moves and coaching changes, the Lions have taken things a step further by securing the future of their home stadium for over a decade.

A Historic Partnership Continues

Following a record-breaking 2024 season, in which the Lions went 15-2 and secured the NFC’s No. 1 seed, Detroit is ensuring stability off the field. On March 28, the franchise announced the extension of its stadium naming rights agreement with Ford Motor Company, guaranteeing that Ford Field will remain the home of the Lions through at least the 2036 season.

The stadium has been the team’s home since 2002 and stands as the second-longest tenured naming rights partnership in the NFL. Over its 22-year history, Ford Field has welcomed more than 30 million visitors, serving as a central hub for both sports and entertainment in Detroit.

“Renewing our relationship with Ford Motor Company has always been a top priority for us,” said Detroit Lions President and CEO Rod Wood. “Ford was an integral partner in our move back to downtown Detroit in 2002 and continues to be valuable to the growth of our brand. We are proud to have an iconic, Detroit-founded company’s name on our building for the foreseeable future.”

Ford President and CEO Jim Farley echoed those sentiments, emphasizing the strong connection between the automaker and the team. “Ford and the Lions are perfect partners – two iconic organizations that are both deeply rooted in Detroit. Ever since Bill Ford spearheaded bringing Ford Field downtown, this stadium has helped drive Detroit’s comeback and hosted some of the biggest events in sports and entertainment.”

More Than Just Football

While Ford Field is best known as the home of the Lions, it has also played host to some of the biggest entertainment events in the country. Over the years, the venue has welcomed superstars like Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones, Eminem, Kid Rock, and Garth Brooks. In 2023, country artist Kenny Chesney set the venue’s attendance record, drawing 560,000 fans across 12 performances.

Looking ahead to 2025, Ford Field is set to host a lineup of major concerts, including Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA, AC/DC’s reunion tour, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Chris Brown, Billy Joel, and Stevie Nicks. Additionally, the stadium will continue to serve as a key location for college football matchups, such as the Michigan State vs. Maryland game.

Ford Field Remains a Symbol of Detroit’s Growth

For Lions fans, the extension of this partnership represents more than just a name on a stadium—it’s a reaffirmation of the city’s resilience and pride. With the team’s recent success and an unwavering commitment to excellence, Ford Field will continue to be a place where Detroit fans gather to witness history for years to come.
